  1. Time doesn't exist in the same way. Regeneration is a process within time. Were I to implement this today, without further consideration, I'd probably rule that there are multiple ways to recover MP's, but new HQ'ers will need to learn those ways (probably via other HQ's), rather than it being automatic. For example, I could see a character "consuming" MP's they find -- possibly ambient/incidentals, "magic food," etc. Also possibly via attacking others and "stealing" MP's (though this seems maybe too Vivamort-ish); but also by learning to "absorb" spells and/or "disassemble" them, etc. Use of the "R" Magic-Rune and/or the "o=o" Infinity-Rune are likely implied here.
  2. We observe that "sneaking" implies both, but there is no "Sneak" skill. To "sneak" you need to Move Quietly (a skill) AND you need to Hide (a skill), making the overall chance to "sneak" much lower; for example, if each is a 75% skill, your overall chance (success in BOTH) is only 56% (!?!) ... This... kind of sucks. Not seeming MGF'ish. OTOH, it may be crunch-simulationist "realistic" -- if you are moving through a space where people COULD see you and COULD hear you... doing so unseen and unheard SHOULD be really really hard! And RQ has always leaned into that "crunchy-simulationist realistic" vibe. I think maybe the solution -- the heroic, Gloranthan solution -- is to use magic. I'm off to ponder this a bit longer.
  3. Not universally, but there should be a way for any of the Lightbringers to Initiate into any of the OTHER Lightbringers (IMHO, YGMV). Except maybe Eurmal, who has a Special Relationship with Orlanth, and others might not accept him...
  4. Flight is so generally useful, so tactically advantageous, that if it is AVAILABLE and you don't ALREADY have it, you will need to turn in your Munchkineer's Badge.
  5. There's also the half-dozen adventures in the BRP Quickstart. Any that /aren't/ fantasy could easily be re-skinned to be...
  6. I don't understand. Why is anyone (everyone) worried about RANGE? This is GLORANTHA, dammit! If you don't want the triceratops to trample you... you don't cast from FARTHER, you use magic to fly a meter higher than its horns can reach, right over its back.
  7. OK, quick overview... From the beginning, "Runequest" has had a notion of the "Runes" as being fundamental magico-mythic "building blocks" of the reality of the world of Glorantha, but has been VERY light on mechanical implementation. The new edition of the game implements Rune mechanics in a very evocative way. It's a real step up, and finally lets the game live up to its name. (There are some mechanical similarities between "Runes" and "Passions" in that each can "Augment" actions that are relevant to the associated Rune or Passion. Runes additionally have ties to your Cult/Deity, to Rune Magic, to some personality traits, etc.). You begin play with Runes based on your character's culture of origin, the choices of the player, etc. You begin play with Passions based on the lifepath-style character generation. If your Grandmother was noted as a noble and faithful warrior of the King, you may begin with an "Honor" passion (i.e. to behave honorably); the idea is, you were raised on tales of her noble & honorable behavior, it was held up as the ideal to which all could aspire but YOU actually hew to those creeds: they are part of you. If your Father fell defending Whitewall and was utterly destroyed when even his soul was eaten by the Crimson Bat... you likely have the passion of "Fear Crimson Bat." Passions and Runes are rated on a 1-100 scale, like skills are. In order to activate them and get benefit, you d100 under the score -- "Hate Lunars?" Then on a roll of 1-75, in this next fight against them you fight "passionately" (with extra elan/flair/skill). If you're interested, the Quickstart is available as a free PDF: https://www.chaosium.com/runequest-quickstart-1/ (n.b. that page has spoilerific content for the GM only. If you hope to PLAY the included scenario, then maybe don't scroll down that page)
  8. Which RQ do you mean? The new/current "RQG" edition? Or the KS'ed "Classic" edition? RQG has "Passions" baked in. Stuff like "Hate Lunars" and "Fear Harrek the Berserk" and "Loyalty to Shaker Temple" and "Love Family" for example. You can use them to Augment certain other rolls: "Fear Harrek" might help your various stealth rolls when Harrek is around, "Hate Lunars" might help your combat skills vs. Lunar troops, etc etc. It has been part of the rules since the Quickstart was released. Then you ask about an "update," & a "starter set," so I'm confused... There is the "Quickstart" with the Broken Tower scenario. That has been out the longest, before even the core RQG rulebook. Passions included. There is the core book itself, about a year old. LOTS about Passions! There is the new "slipcase set" which adds the Bestiary and "GM Screen Pack" (which is over a HUNDRED more pages than just a "GM screen"), and of course the slipcase, to the Core book. Some new Passions for the new races. There is a project Chaosium announced for a "Starter Set" for RQG, but that's a ways out yet, I think.
  9. Make an "Elasan" hero-cult specifically claiming blood relationship, if you need to. But honestly, I would allow any reasonably-Gloranthan group or relationship to be the source of an heirloom like that. For a comparable example -- in the Family History section of character generation, I don't require the "Parent" and "Grandparent" roles to be actual ancestors. A cousin? Sure. Great-Aunt? Absolutely. Part of the Gloranthan POV is close, "clannish" relations!!!
  10. Chaosium has plans to create a RuneQuest fan-publishing initiative on DTRPG, like the DM's Guild for D&D (or their own CoC "Miskatonic Repository).
  11. IMO - At a 'Con event (where time is short)... Have everyone make a roll. Best roll determines outcome. No successes means they either go home with just a few cows, or allow a re-roll but a few cows are just GONE (predation / wandering away from herd / stolen by a lone bandit / they'll never know) Any Fumble give the GM a chance to narrate a funny ooops. --- If you have time (e.g. an at-home group) you might actually roll it out, forcing them to herd the cattle home and learn how BAD they really are at 25% skills... If you think the players would enjoy that or it'd be useful to learn in a "cattle" context instead of e.g. a "sneak past the Great Troll guards" context...
  12. For extra credit, prove that the reader of the post doesn't exist, except in the imagination of the Aldryami ...
  13. Also worth noting (maybe?) is that "Fate" is itself a set of narrative-ish rules that sit atop the crunchy-simulationist Fudge engine. And "Aspect-Only Fate" is a thing people have already done. It wouldn't be much work, really, to overlay those non-Fudge bits of Fate onto another crunchy-simulationist RPG engine ... if you had one in mind...? 🤣
  14. Now. If the retailer carries it. Which often means, if their distributor(s) offer it. But check that your "FLGS" retailer participates in the"bits&mortar" program, or else you will have to buy the PDF separately / extra (Online discount houses don't count here, are not bits&mortar eligible... ) .
  15. I hoped someone would spot that little few% advantage! 😁
  16. Ironic result: - Succeed's in Fertility, gets a check for end-of-season. - Fumbles in Fertility, takes -d10% rolls 1, Death goes up to 96 - Fertility Check rolls to increase, d6 rolls 6 - Death Rune now at 90% - Teeth gnash - Rest of table ROFLMAO's @ poor PhilHibbs
  17. Bad Link on the d101Games page! Following the link above, I land on: https://d101games.com/news/newsletter/ All well and good. There's another link... ooooh! "Read previous Newletters via the Archive" Cool, let me take a look... um, NOPE: http://after some quick sorting ot thhttps//us7.campaign-archive.com/home/?u=227eb28cb10e6e7b96588d533&id=ad3149ee28
  18. It didn't seem to me like you were trying to cast blame, but report a problem! They are reported in this thread as being both proactive on expected problems & responsive to new ones -- and you don't come across as an unreasonable jerk that might get a company to throw up their hands and stop trying! -- so I expect some "technical glitch" is blocking communication. I was offering suggestions based on such technical "failure modes" that I have seen over the years. I expect with Rick stepping in, it will all get resolved shortly; at least, the dice-issue (the tech problem may remain a mystery, alas!). Me? A geek? Why would you think that??!?
  19. I would presume the answer to that is "yes."
  20. And searching "rune fixes" on Chaosium's own website doesn't find it ... 😢
  21. Hmmm ... Maybe their response to you is being tagged as spam in your automation?
  22. This seems wierd. I suspect some sort of glitch has occurred / is occurring. Are you relying upon an existing e-mail address that your mailer program remembers? Has that ever worked? Maybe you have a typo? Maybe they have accidentally got a "dead" address, such as an ex-employee whose e-mails aren't monitored. Etc ... Equally possible, is that someone accidentally tagged your message as "spam" and now your e-mail is never being seen. Possibly call them? Do you have a 2ndary address to send from? Some alternate channel to communicate seems likely to solve things... edit: Or Chaosium could step up and help. Bravo Chaosium!
  23. RQG takes the position that a "starting" character isn't a "starting" adventurer. At 21, they may have up to 5 years' combat and "adventure" experience under their belts.
  24. That... Seems like an elaborate form of suicide, to me.
  25. Hmmmmm. You know the Great Shaman Schrodinger, then?
