Ian Thomson Pavis series

I know this has been asked before, but I don't think there was a resolution. Does anyone know where PDF versions of Ian Thomson's 'Pavis & Big Rubble Companion' excellent series can be bought? I have the first one 'Pavis: A Man for All Seasons, but I would dearly love to get the rest. They had titles like 'Masks of Pavis', 'Beyond Pavis', etc.They used to be on http://www.pavis.nzrpga.org.nz/companion.html, but this no longer exists.

Haven't seen anything regarding Ian Thomson in a long time though, so unless he reemerges and decides to do so, we won't see those titles again.

The Voluminous Pavis & Big Rubble companions probably exist in PDF format, but there are a number of things that would need to happen if they are to be available for sale again. Without trying to be pessimistic or negative, it's a bit more involved than Ian Thomson giving the green light. While these books were mainly written by Ian Thomson, he set up these projects as volunteer efforts. Almost all of the work, be it writing, editing, layout, and art were all done for "the love of the game" and were handshake deals. I doubt Ian can reuse the art and articles written by other people without their permission. Many of them would probably happily give such permission, but they still have to be formally asked.

At a quick look, I'm afraid  it's a bit spotty in what was archived. For example, various interesting zip files were not available in the version above. But there are many versions, so perhaps those interested can dig around a bit more intently and see what can be found.

Hi Folks

An old topic but not an antiquated one

I am cleaning up prior to moving house and literally found a dust-covered external hard drive behind a cupboard that had a bunch of old Pavis material on, including the lost appendices to Beyond Pavis

AND a pdf copy of Beyond Pavis

Both have been sent to Fabian of Tentacles Press

There were also the notes to the 'Wedding of Pavis' mini-campaign I wrote and ran but was never published. I plan to write those up in the near future and also send to Fabian

I have found the relatively polished versions of both the Wedding & Liberation campaigns. Someone had them archived online!!!! I won't give out the reference though because I am going to spend a couple of days going through and editing it into a more refined version. It would be nice it it could be an official P&BR Companion: Vol. 6, but a lot of material (especially in Liberation), but not all, is notes about how to edit official publications to make them fit into my campaign. There are also a LOT of original story ideas, so any Narrator with skill and experience could easily adapt it to their own campaign. So, yeh I'm rewriting it now into an unofficial P&BRC6

I have pdfs of various parts of this you gave to me back in the early 2000s when you lived in Melbourne.  Please let me know if you want me to send them to you.  I certainly have the Liberation and Wedding ones, and various other smaller ones (e.g. Kagrokka, and 87 page 'Man for all Seasons' one.

Coincidentally I am running a game heading into these very adventures right now.  Only took 20 years to get there!

I had so much fun with this series, have a deep and profound love for it, so it's wonderful to hear that it might see the light of day again. Who cares if it's not so close to the canon anymore; it's damn good fun, with a love of Glorantha running through it.

Back before the days of eBay, I had to work very hard to get the whole set. But by Gim-Gim the Grim's blank face, I did it. They now sit in pride of place on my bookshelves, along with several other boxed sets of that era.

I found the Wedding & Liberation and have edited them together, and made some corrections and added small new bits.

I also had a final mini-campaign that I had forgotten altogether, where the Lunars (a couple of seasons before they lost Boldhome to the dragon) attempted a massive armed reprisal on Prax, and marched on the newly revitalised Old City

I have no notes anymore, but I added the detailed outline of that to the new pdf, since I remember the essence of it well

More than happy to send you a copy of the new version

And yes the pdf of Man for All Seasons would be awesome :)

@Darius West If I remember correctly and aren't just making it up for the fun of it, Iffinbix was one of those cult leader, inspirational speaker types, whose main motivation was to spread the popularity of a healthy breakfast cereal he had created. And then things just got out of hand

The PDFs were never for sale. To sell them now would require a new license from Chaosium Inc.

Yes, I am talking to Fabian about the practicalities of this. We wouldn't just re-release them though, but update them as well. So a fair bit of work, but feels worth it to get the material out there again. Anyway, practicalities talks have begun

If they're your original work, I'd suggest looking at the Jonstown Compendium: it's the most practical way to release community content these days (and is already licensed). You will of course need permission from any co-authors, artists and other contributors. Let me know if you need any advice.

Thanks Nick. Yes that is looking like the most likely option, and I don't think there are any key parts that I am not sole or main author of. And we have the main illustrator interested too. Other images and the few incidental pieces can be replaced or just left out if we can't get in contact with people.
