  1. If there is one thing that I have learned in my years playing RPGs, it is that I shouldn't throw things away from a system just because a new version has come out. I now mix and match rules from different versions of systems, to make my game better. I would not be surprised if other people using other systems didn't do the same.
  2. As BRP and RQ6 are not entirely compatible, the best we can hope for is something that sits in between, That's good enough for me.
  3. If it had been $99,999,999.99 then I might have been interested.
  4. Loz and Pete wrote some material for Mongoose RuneQuest, mainly MRQ2, Vikings and Blood Magic, I think. They haven't written for Legend and I very much doubt that they would do, as they have a perfectly good version of RuneQuest to write for.
  5. It has only been a week, so give them time. I am sure that they will make announcements when they have something to announce.
  6. Conventions and Stuff, Here we go and several test posts produce the following error when you try to view them: Sorry, there is a problem You do not have permission to view this content.Error code: 2F173/H
  7. Presumably, you roll 3D6 and half the value, so 1,2,3 gives 6, which is halved to 2. It limits the range to 9 meters, average 5 or 6, which sounds fine for a radium gun.
  8. In RQ2 days, we had a focus on Prax/Pavis, with a bit of material in Balazar and some troll stuff. It was focussed and clear - Sartarite rebels fought the Lunars; trolls fought elves, dwarves, chaos and some humans, but liked some humans; Balazaring hunters carried on regardless. RQ3 brought along more material on Prax, but that's about it, OK Sun County is Yelmalian but still in Prax. Gods of Glorantha expanded to include lots more cults, but didn't change the emphasis. For both RQ2/RQ3, Orlanthi were a cult of Adventurers, even though the other Orlanthi cults were mentioned but not emphasised. Hero Wars had a heavy emphasis on Heortlings, as Orlanthi were now called. They were now clan based, with a lot of material covering clan activity,l farming, herding, cattle raids, legal issues and clan feuds. The Lunar-Orlanthi rivalry was there, but de-emphasised. The Sartar Rising supplements brought back the Lunar-Orlanthi conflict. Virtually nothing was said about Prax, apart from "Everyone is bored of Prax, let's do something else". HeroQuest kept the emphasis on the Heortlings, but other cultures were covered by third party publishers. It also expanded the knowledge about Glorantha by covering other areas, with a lot of coverage of the Lunar Empire and the West, culminating with the Guide to Glorantha. Hortlings, especially Sartarites, were covered in Sartar and Sartar Companion, Pavis was covered in the Pavis book. Recent Glorantha has diluted the original focus on Prax, Pavis and more Prax, which some people feel has changed how they feel about Glorantha. Cults of Prax was groundbreaking in many ways, as it created a sourcebook with a very local feel to it. Borderlands simply continued that feel, as did Pavis and the Big Rubble. Personally, I feel that the new Gloranthan material is excellent, but I have always liked the history and cultures of Glorantha. For many years, I have asked "What about Sartar?" Now, we know an awful lot about Sartar. I am not so keen on the West, Kralorela or Pamaltela, to be honest, as they are not areas of Glorantha that interest me, particularly, but I am glad that they are covered in a certain level of detail. My question now is "What about the Hero Wars?", as that is an area of Glorantha that really interests me,
  9. Don't work on lots of different things at once, otherwise you'll end up with lots of unfinished things and nothing to show for it. I speak from experience here. Send Alepthar, or Chaoisum, a summary of what you want to do and a rough timescale of when it could be finished. They'll be able to tell you if they are interested. If you have something finished, then you could send the whole thing to Alephtar or Chaosium, as that allows them to slot it into their publishing schedule fairly easily. That's what I did with Merrie England: Age of Eleanor, but it is risky as they might not be interested and you might feel that you have wasted time. If you go down the self-publishing route, then you would need a licence from Chaosium. That might be tricky at the moment. If you ported over to Legend, then you could self-publish with no licensing issues, as long as you include the OGL. However, self-publishing means getting an editor, doing the layout, sourcing artwork and producing a PDF in the right format, not the easiest of tasks. If you decide that putting it out there for free is the right approach, then polish it a bit. It doesn't need fancy graphics and fantastic layout, in my opinion, but needs to be as complete as you can make it. A mind dump of all your ideas is OK for a blog or a website, but not for a finished publication, even a free one. I wouldn't post it for free and then expect to get it published. You would be better off asking for feedback from a few people, sending it to them and seeing what they say. It doesn't hurt to get feedback and there are many people here who would be pleased to help, myself included.
  10. What's with the merging of posts? I posted three posts in the Chaosium/Moon Design thread and they have all been merged into one post. Sometimes,I want the posts kept separate, so as to emphasise points. Merging the posts means than the emphasis has been lost in one large thread. Is there any way to turn off this feature, on a user by user basis?
  11. Also, don't forget Legend - near enough to RQ to be compatible, but can also be customised. Which is good. I know when I wrote for Alephtar Games, I always wrote in a space that was between BRP and RQ, so having Alephtar D100 supplements for RuneQuest wouldn't be the end of the world, for me in any case. If Chaosium concentrate on Glorantha, that allows other companies to concentrate on Alternate/Mythic Earth and other settings. This allows each company to keep focussed on what they do best and allows fans to pick and choose their settings. I used to think this was a nice forum, which is one of the reasons I come here. Personal attacks are for other forums, not this one. A lot of people had problems with RQ3, with how Greg Stafford left Chaosium, with how Glorantha has changed, with how RQ and Glorantha are tied together, with how BRP should be a separate system with a separate fan base. I know people who will only play RQ2, as anything newer is heretical. I also know people who will only use RQ2, Cults of Prax and maybe Cults of Terror, believing anything else is unnecessary. I know a lot of people who play RQ and would never, ever, play in Glorantha. Many people only play in their own homebrews and don't play in any published setting. Many of these people will have concerns over what is happening at the moment, so rubbishing their views doesn't help anyone at all.
  12. Well, that is good news. RuneQuest going back to Chaosium - Good!RuneQuest linked to Glorantha - Good!Loz and Pete being lead writers on the RuneQuest Line - Good!Design Mechanism able to produce non-Gloranthan RuneQuest - Good!I am not sure about how I feel about yet another version of RuneQuest, however. It looks as though Loz and Pete will have written almost as many editions of RuneQuest as anyone else combined (In fact, RQ1 and RQ2 are almost the same, so it's pretty much 50-50).
  13. Free is good - Paying us to download it would be Awesome
  14. From the base chance, so you would take 50 from the pool. I normally do it in a spreadsheet, with skill name, category bonus, base chance, background, profession, free and any other adds in separate columns, with a final total at the end. It makes it easier for me to understand. Each column takes from the appropriate pool. The cap includes the base chance, so a cap of 75% means that no skill can exceed 75% at the start of play. So, in your example, you can max your skills to 66%, as adding the category bonus brings the skill to 75%. The same with the other example, the total skill cannot exceed 75%. Of course, this means that any unused points can be used for other skills.
  15. As has been said, RQ6 would be fine for this. For multi-genre games, you would need to have different Backgrounds/Professions/Skills, but they are easy enough to put together. I'd allow the spending of a Luck Point to reduce the effect of a wound, "It's just a Flesh Wound".
  16. It makes sense for the Hoses to be near the lake, presumably for washing down the other animals.
  17. The more you play with it, the harder it gets. That's why I don't like updates, at work or at home,
  18. Congratulations! Why is it non-OGC? One of the strengths of Legend is that anyone can use the open content rules.
  19. There was a spell called Analyse Magic, for Gloranthan RuneQuest, which we used to see what properties a magic item had. Mystic Vision could also be used by sorcerers and I believe that is available in Basic Magic. I don't think there is a BRP equivalent, though.
  20. I had a filter for unread posts, from the old version, which didn't work, but the link above works fine.
