  1. Marxists and critical theorists would probably want a word with him, but that's another story.
  2. Ah, seems like a pretty good analogue.

    Praying

There's a grey line between prayer/ritual and sacrifice. Theatrics might count. Burning incense (or fatwood for common folk) while reciting mantras/prayers might count. "Dedicating" your meal to a god before eating it, or leaving a portion of it somewhere suitable (altar, campfire, on top of a rock or stump) might count. That sorta thing. Not talking about RQ mechanics here, of course.
  4. Is there some kind of "management" skill in RQ, for downtime stuff when players are supposed to be at home? If so, that could be used for logistical checks, like how much of the stuff perishes, wagons broken, time lost, etc., etc. Mostly mundane stuff.
  5. Isn't there something about Newtling Bachelors going to serve the Dragonewts as servants rather than slaves? I did raise my eyebrow at the mention of slavery in Ryzel.
  6. I'm wondering whether it should be "From Kerofinela With Love" given that the JB expy is lunar. Also: 007. Seventh Soul. Sevening. Heh.
  7. Theory: Ryzel was a God Time Dragonewt settlement that they made a deal with Nysalor to resettle. Perhaps to uncover and "revive" the eggs there or something to that effect. Bottom point: it was a return, not a colonization.
  8. Issaries caused the illiteracy plague. Hey, that's still not dumb.
  9. It's not really that odd, truth be told. 😄
  10. Some creepy relic like this, maybe: http://www.scpwiki.com/scp-882
  11. I unironically want the Ducks to, like, conduct a Heroquest to raise Ganderland from the sea or something, and live in peace there forever after (eh, well, as much peace as 30s cartoon duck expys can muster). It also satisfies my desire for there being a quest to raise some land from the sea, which goes against the general trend of land sinking in Glorantha (the other possible example of land-raising being the dwarves pulling Slon into Pamaltela).
  12. This is some nice, rural horror material. Creepy local community messes with visitors. Good stuff.
  13. While it is impossible to generalize authoritatively, a likely form would have a kind of audience-choir element composed of the majority of attendants who may perform easier, less complex movements and song elements, and they're likely to be spatially peripheral (maybe encircling) and then you have the specific narrative elements carried out in a more central, observable space, by specialists. This is pretty common in many traditional ritual dances (and impromptu, just think of a spontaneous dance circle for example). It's also possible the group is divided into representing the different elements as a whole, like some kind of pageant or synchronous dance group, but ultimately there are always going to be individuals who can't contribute much beyond simple elements (the very elderly, toddlers, etc.) so the more complex, the more specialized, I guess.
  14. Could be Glorantha slowly being medievalized in the 4th Age, and the Elder Races slowly becoming (externally) homogenized to become basically the fey. I'm sure that's not a very attractive scenario for those who've already played a lot of Pendragon, but for me it kinda works.
  15. Once did the same for Warhammer Fantasy, as an alternative for the oft-maligned End Times. So I welcome this. Hell, such scenarios could serve as visions for player parties on what they might want to achieve!
  16. Like a mix between Gulf USA and ancient Ireland.
  17. I really liked the idea that Arkat cursed Dorastor to contain all of the Bright Empire's Chaos, sort of like a containment zone. Hence why it doesn't spread and such. It's probably not canon, but it does kinda explain why someone so virulently anti-Chaos up and created the worst Chaos area on the continent.
  18. Chimneys are going to be "ahistorical" even if we consider the third age Gloranthans to be living in an era more akin to the Hellenistic times than Bronze Age. However, ultimately, Glorantha is not the RW so... I guess chimneys exist, are kinda newfangled, and only available to the wealthy. Sounds workable, imho.
  19. I'd say so. This evolution is often part of the subcult system, ie. Adventurous can be seen as a younger Orlanth, whereas Rex is a more mature one. That's not all there is to it, of course, but it works. An immature Ernalda would basically be Voria (and may or may not indeed be Voria. Myths are weird.)
  20. I'm not Jeff, of course, but there is artwork of Westerners in the Guide, if you have it, or are in a position to buy it (admittedly quite an investment). And you could do, way, way worse than taking a gander at M Helsdon's impressive list of artwork for his upcoming arms & armor book of Western Genertela: The general armor look seems to lean into heavy cavalry cultures of the Pontic Steppe (Sarmatians, Scythians), Sassanid Persians, Northern Indians, etc. It's more complicated than that, but that's the jist.
  21. This debate was heavily politicized in 2nd Age Ralios where several scholarly works were circulating attempting to find a good answer: Treatise on the Uleric Properties of Tangible Bodies A Retort to the Ulerification of Gross Lodeism in view of Abyssal Nakalic Origination A Reaffirmation of Uleric Principles of Similarence And of course the deeply heretical Precedence for the Theurgy of "Uleria-Nakala" for the purposes of Physeickal Agglutination. EDIT: The epistle Countering the Matriarchal Views of Bodily Distribution Within the Cosmos-so-Ordered by way of Promaltic-Dazerenic Rejectivity and Oppressiveness did not receive much of an audience, as the Pelorian sky gods were too poorly understood at the time.
  22. I hope I don't sound like a dumdumb, but since Broos take the trait of whatever living thing they gestated in, isn't it reasonable to just think the Unicorn Emperor is, well, a unicorn broo? That's always the impression I got. (I'm not going to dip my toes into this discussion deeper, since I find it a bit too semantically focused on what arbitrary label to slap on the fellow, but I'm referring specifically to the unicorn-headed body.)
  23. I'm getting major "Majored In Western Hypocrisy" vibes from the Unicorn Emperor, at least. As in, he learnt the "civilized" ways, but he knows that this entails assassination, political manipulation, etc.
  24. The sevenfold symbolism might be RW culture bleeding over. Seven is an auspicious number in Abrahamic religions, after all (at least in Christianity). In Dara Happan culture, a soul is sixfold, and their notion of perfection is centred around the number ten (the Fortunate Succession states this explicitly, which might have to do with the original ten cities, or something else), and they have five cardinal directions (W,S,E,N, and Centre). I forget how many parts a soul has in Heortling culture. Someone else can probably clarify. We also find mostly five elements (Fire/Light, Dark, Water, Earth, Storm) with some omitting Storm and having four, and others splitting Fire and Light (Dawn Era Ralian, iirc) or adding Moon for six. The Moon has seven phases, and adds a seventh soul to the Dara Happan soul system for sevening. More of a specific cultural innovation than Glorantha in general, I think. Not so sure about the other civilizations, other than that trolls count in base eight or something? I forget. EDIT: I forget how exactly many parts Nysalor was cut into, but seven wouldn't surprise me.
